Alright guys, I hope you can help me, my computer has already been fully clean of viruses and malware of the sort, so I'm going to need some other answers. A couple weeks ago, I cleaned my computer of malware and trojans. For some reason after that, I cannot launch most of my games and applications. A weird thing was that before, one of the games that was affected was Team Fortress 2, and probably any Valve games I had ran the same hl2.exe process. Steam told me to delete some folders and files except for two things, steamapps (Which was a folder that contained my Steam games including Team Fortress), and the Steam.exe application. It surprisingly worked! Also, now, Steam has the same problem of crashing...

After some help from Broni (Thanks a lot for helping get rid of anything that was making my computer slow, and although it really didn't resolve my crashing problem, you've been a big help  :) ), I got rid of every virus or something that made my computer slow. It didn't solve my crashing problem. What seems to happen with most applications, is that I launch them, and after a few seconds it says that "Application X has stopped responding.", or sometimes, the not responding doesn't even show up (This also applies to League of Legends, where the logo shows up and disappears.), it shows up in my process list, and just disappears. I already ran a system check and used tweaking.com's Windows Repair, it just won't launch at all. I dunno what's going on, but this seemed to start after that virus removal. Please don't move this topic to another forum like "Help! I'm Infected", because it's not that anymore.

The topic, if you want to know what probably was removed, is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/501906/help-me-with-malwareslow-problems/

The list of applications that I know so far that were affected are below:

List:

League of Legends

Halo

Counter-Strike Global Offensive

Roblox

M2 Sega Emulator

Rosetta Stone

Desmume Emulator

Sims 2 Double Deluxe with various expansion packs

Nestopia (NES Emulator)

Others I probably haven't tried yet. I hope you can help me find a solution. :)

When the internet actually comes to a close, whenever that happens, just think, how will we live?

Very big breakthrough tonight. I ran some of my applications using compatibility mode, and they actually work! No crashes. Also, I run using XP Service Pack 3 or Vista depending on the application. I don't what this means, but still, I'm pretty dang happy today.

Please do the following:

a.  Unintall TuneUp Utilities 2013 (Version: 13.0.3020.7) and TuneUp Utilities Language Pack (en-US) (Version: 13.0.3020.7) .  These programs are likely do create problems on your system, not resolve problems.

b.  Your firewall doesn't seem to be enabled.  Check the status, ensure that it is enabled and working properly.

c.  Go to Windows Update and install all critical updates that are available.

Be advised that using torrent programs...entails a specific risk of malware, see Safe Using Torrents and QMan On Malware, Torrents, Cracks, etc. - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/500445/all-started-with-sweetpacks-malware/ .  When critical updates are not installed and your firewall is disabled. your vulnerability to malware is increased.

Do not use the "registry cleaner" feature in CCleaner, doing so may create system problems that don't have to be created.

OK, anything about having to use compatibility mod for the crashing programs?

I don't know anything about compatibility mode...never used it or investigated it.  I find that I can install most, if not all, older programs into Win 7 with no probllem.

Others here know more about this than I, I suggest you await input from other members.

I fail to see any connection between compatibilty mode and what seem to be your system issues...but my myopia is not confined to my eyesight :).

I don't get it, why isn't it bashed by critics on PcMag, Notebook Review, and the official Windows Magazine?

If all the software which deserves to be "bashed"...were listed daily in the newspaper and on the news...the reaction by the public (people just like you) would undoubtedly dispaly the same naivete.

I think that you see my drift here.  Don't rely on reviews (or the lack thereof) by those who anything but "disinterested parties."  Look for those from parties who have nothing at all to gain...by saying "don't do this" or "do this."

That's the advantage you obtain...as a member of this forum and others like it.  Users generally have nothing to gain by recommending or suggesting a course of action.  Users do have their personal biases and prejudices about computer components, brands, O/Ses and software...but, when exposed in a public forum, those can be offset/nullified by the membership-at-large.

The plain, simple answer to your question is...you are far more likely to get useable, valued information about every aspect of your using a computer..in a forum like this..than you will find in any magazine or website which caters to the public and is interested in turning a profit.

The ads that you see at any website, including this one...are not intended to convey anything more than the fact that someone has paid for that advertising space.

Notebook Review...review systems, not software.  PCMag...well, I don't consider it a reliable source of knowledge about anything (but that's a personal opinion).  I've never heard of the Windows magazine but it seems to have gone out of business, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Magazine .

Everything that appears on any communication medium...isn't true in depicting the pros/cons of whatever the product might be.  There is no laundry list of "bad software" but there are opinions written about some softwares...that can be educational.

Microsoft support policy for the use of registry cleaning utilities - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563254

Registry cleaner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Registry_cleaner

There is not a system working today...that needs a utility like the one which you have installed.

The idea of "regisiry cleaners" and "optimizers" and "tuneup utilities"...dates back to the days of Windows 95/98, when hard drives were tiny, Windows was new to everyone, and RAM was measured in MB, not GB.  Lessons have been learned, times have changed...yet, there are more "registry cleaners/optimizers" available today than anyone could have dreamed of.  I attribute that to the fact that new users...don't seem to realize...that these types of programs are totally unnecessary and may, in fact, work to create problems which never existed prior to program installation/use.
