Hi

I'm running Vista and I'm trying to install McAfee and need to uninstall Spybot Search and Destroy (free version). When I go to Control Panel / Uninstall, Spybot isn't listed in the list of programs. What am I doing wrong? Any help greatly appreciated.

How to uninstall Spybot-S&D
How to Uninstall Spybot S&D 2.0

Both How to articles from Spybot say to uninstall from Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features), then remove related folders afterwards. For the older version of Spybot, they say you can delete the installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\Spybot – Search & Destroy\) if Add/Remove did not help.

If the program is not listed in Add/Remove, try using a third party uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller Free or Portable - RevoUninstaller Tutorial.

If it's not listed there either, then you may want to check with Spybot S&D Support as to why. I have not used Spybot in years but never had a problem uninstalling the older version.

If all of quietman's suggestions fail. One additional tool that may be employed in removing Spybot Search and Destroy is OPSWAT AppRemover™.

Thanks for the replies. I tried deleting Spybot from the Programs files but the system wouldn't allow it. I got a message saying I needed "Permission". I'll follow up on your suggestions above. Once again, many thanks.

If you don't want to install new software and you don't trust the uninstall program that should have been included with Spybots uninstaller you can boot to a Linux live disk like Knoppix or gparted and delete the extra files. I'm dual booting Kubuntu & win10 and this worked for me.

Welcome to BC.

I'm not sure why you replied to a topic which is almost 4 years old...some of the information above is outdated.
