Hi guys,

I have Windows XP home edition. Followed the detailed removal instructions for this annoying parasite using the automatic method outlined. Problem arises in stage 4. When I start the Run.bat program I get the black screen with text. It requires me to hit any key to continue. I do this and after a momentary disappearance of the desktop it almost immediately gives me the prompt "Completed script execution".

In essence it seems to be skipping the whole uninstall step. Kinda important part of the process!

Additional problem is that on running in safe mode neither Roguescanfix nor smitRem appear either on my desktop or in my program list. The icons are all there on my desktop in normal windows mode.

Most confused and help would be appreciated.

If your having problems with the fix tools, I suggest you read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log.

When you have done that, post a log in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum, not here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts.

It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy. Please be patient as they are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have not been replied as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, a team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

Hi guys.

Re ran the automatic tool and thankfully now seem rid of this pest. VERY many thanks.

A couple of observations which might be of help to you. I run Windows XP.

When I reached step9 in safe mode and log in as administrator I was unable to access smitRem as this was denied to me and not displayed on the desktop. I resolved this by making a copy and locating in another place such as programs which made it accessible. Happily all seems to be well.

Thanks again
