Every 2-4 days of intermittent use Windows 8 GUI locks up no matter what is happening. The mouse cursor will move and the heartbeat disk light still flashes every second so the hardware and Windows 8 are still intact.
The GUI lock up can happen during use or sitting idle. When using the computer I will notice signs it is about to lock up. For example, for a few seconds, I can still click different icons or windows but the app I clicked will highlight but will not start or the window I clicked will get the focus but not come to the foreground.
I even find the system in this locked state while waiting for me to login.
I have disabled all auto-start services, except McAfee Security Center 12.1, in task manage but still had the problem.
Now, I typically restart the computer before I sit down to work with it so it will not lock up while I have files open.
Here is my computer:

I have had this terrible experience for many months and finally asked for help. I understand intermittent issues are more challenging especially if I need to wait for a week of use to verify a possible fix actually resolved the problem.
I hope someone has seen this issue before and has an idea of how to resolve it.
