Hello!

I have recently bought a new laptop (Asus K56C) and installed Windows 8 and also all the necessary drivers.

But when I try to connect via wireless to my router I keep getting this message instantly (as if it doesn't even try to connect): "Can't connect to this network". The weird thing is that I can see all the wireless connections around me, including my router, but I cannot connect to it. The only way I can use the internet is by connecting the router to my laptop via an Ethernet cable.

So far I have opened the "Network troubleshooter" and try to detect problems, but I couldn't find the problem this way. I have also went into the "Device Manager" and uninstalled the driver for the "Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter" and then installed the latest version of it.

If this is relevant whatsoever, please note that my phone can connect to my router without any problems.

I have also attached some images showing how my Huawei HG655B router is configured (perhaps there's something wrong there?), and how Network Adapters look like in "Device Manager" (is something missing there?), and lastly how the failed to connect message looks like in Windows 8.

If you want me to provide a logcat or something similar, I will do it provided that you can tell me how to do it (because I don't know all that much when it comes networks and wireless connections).

Your opinions and suggestions are gladly appreciated.

Today I went out to visit some places and so far I have connected to an unencrypted wireless network that was in my Town Hall. It connected pretty fast and it worked fine. In fact right now I am writing from my laptop that's connected to this network. So this rules out a hardware problem, since my wireless adapter is clearly working.

Later on today I will go to a restaurant and try and connect there to an encrypted wireless connection. See if it works that way.

I guess it's also not a Windows 8 problem, but I could be wrong. Any thoughts on the matter?

I think you have to set Encryption to TKIP instead of AES.
