Microsoft has decided to bring back the "Start button" in Windows 8.1, that's why they have included start button windows 8.1 preview. But that button is not actually a start button. The classic multi-step applicaton launcher is that we have seen in windows 7 and earlier versions of microsoft windows is still missing. Windows 8.1 Start Button is just a shortcut to the windows 8's start menu.

Yeah..its really not what we are looking for. Best bet is to still use one of the start menu replacements.

I don't think I need the start button anymore.

People were complaining because flipping between desktop and the new start menu is disturbing and cuts the train of thoughts, but if they add shortcuts in the new updates then the problem is gone.

There has always been a Start button on Windows from Win95 its a great feature.

The first thing I installed on my new Windows 8 laptop was StartIsBack.
