When i try to access my Avast i get the following, ' Application has failed to start because the side by side configuration is incorrect '. I have Googled for the solution, but it seems far too complicated for my tiny computer mind, as well as the danger of not doing it correctly.. I am running my HP Presario in Vista.

I would appreciate help  with this please.

Thank you.

I don't believe that error is specific to avast!

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect’ error related to MMC.EXE programs

Prevent "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect..." error starting Access

This error can be the result of missing runtime components of Visual C++ libraries, third-party software or when the Microsoft .NET Framework installation is damaged/missing. You may need to check the application event log using Event Viewer.

Well, i have looked at the event viewer but have been unable to reproduce it here. There are a number of disabled items after which it tells me to overwrite as necessary.  It also says after the enabled items.  I am non the wiser!

The Disabled ones are Microsoft Windows CAP, Cert, Eve, Htt, Serv, Ter, Win.

Thank you.

Hi John -

This may give us a better look at some problems -

Download Security Check by Screen317 from HERE
* Save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe icon
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Note: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Please download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop and run it.
Close any Firefox browsers you may have open
Checkmark the following boxes:
•List last 10 Event Viewer log
•List Installed Programs
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
•List Minidump Files
Click Go and copy / paste the result (Result.txt).

Link Edited -

Thank You -
