Toshiba Satellite 1.8ghz 4GB 64bit Windows 8 laptop

I started getting issues with my laptop today. First it wouldn't let me on Internet Explorer or Mozilla, then restarting sorted that issue. But now I cant run any exe files or install any files, for example Malwarebytes. I get the message Windows cant find C:\Program Files (x86).

I have also tried doing other things like setting up a new account but I get no response from my laptop.

Can anyone help me with this issue please?

Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • Do not reboot until instructed.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.

When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.
Post it in your next reply.

NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

No programs work. I tried AVG which starts but then I always get a blue screen and the laptop restarts. Internet Explorer works but that's about it.

I ran Malwarebytes in safe mode and it found no issues, it doesn't work in normal mode though. AVG scanned and found lots of errors before it crashed again in safe mode. Other programs which don't work are the RKill program I downloaded, Ccleaner.

Computer Game, Vuze, VLC player, Mozilla all run fine. There only the programs I have on my laptop.

I also try to get onto Msconfig and I get the error message. Windows cannot find C:\windows\system32\msconfig.exe.

I noticed this issue about a week ago, the laptop kept crashing with a blue screen and I use to be able to stream videos but they kept crashing, so I knew something was up.

Well it looks like we have just SOME programs which don't work.

Firstly uninstall AVG using AVG Remover: http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities

Install fresh copy, run full scan and let me know if it worked.

We'll go from there.

I had to download the uninstall remover in safe mode as it wouldn't let me in normal mode. Exactly the same when downloading AVG again, it don't let me run the exe file.

When AVG was installed I did another scan but it crashed again to a blue screen and restarted.

I cant get in System configuration, Msconfig. When I try to run some saved downloads on my computer to install programs like spybot I get a message saying ShellExecuteEx failed; code 2, The system cannot find the file specified.

Thankyou for your time

I did do a full scan on Malwarebytes but it came up with no threats. I downloaded Spybot today and did a scan, it found Win32.Downloader.gen.
