Hello,

New here, have an Acer netbook that won't let me install this security update.

Am running MBAM and Spybot along with the parts of MSE that will load, but

am concerned about this failure to install.

Am wondering if this will be easy to fix, or reuire me to

take the pc to the shop that built it.

Ideas appreciated.

Dave

Uninstall .NET Framework 1.1. Then download the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool
Unzip and run the cleanup tool and from the drop-down box, select 1.1 and clean.
Reinstall .NET Framework 1.1
Download and install .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
Visit Windows Update or Microsoft Update and let it install the rest of the 1.1 updates including KB2833941.

Check if it's installs and report back.

Visit Windows Update and let it do it then. It should be the only thing showing under high-priority. Install it and then go back by clicking Windows Update Home on the left column. Do a scan again and KB2833941 should come up. Let it install it.

Nope...it shows 0 kb and won't install.

Now a 10.2 mb download....dll will not load.

Maybe there's a problem between you and WU. Try again tomorrow or you could let automatic updates attempt to install it.

OK, try this..

Go into control panel, automatic updates and switch from automatic to manual.

Visit Windows Update and it should trigger manual updates in your notification area. A yellow shield. Just site there at WU for a bit. Do a scan or whatever if the shield does show up.

When it shows up, close IE and click the gold shield and have it try to install it.

Remember to put back Automatic Updates on fully automatic when all is said and done.

That's nonsense from Microsoft's Update. I get it too. Uncheck it and click next I believe and a dialog box will pop up asking if you want to hide it or never show you it again. Click yes or whatever...I forget exactly what the dialog looks like.

When you've successfully hidden it, do the procedure again and .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 should show up.

I still have a yellow shield down on my toolbar.

The guys working on my desktop machine tell me that I have

not had a secure computer for months if this file has not been installed.

I went back through update history.  My first failed item was October 17 (my computer was serviced and viruses removed in September).

MSE Definition update KB2310138 (Definition 1.139.14.0) Error Code 0x80200010

November 16 was the first of many attempts to update MSE Security Updte for

NET framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 2008x86 (KB2698023)

Error Code 0x643

Automatic Update has given me the following 6 items to install or custom install:

Net Framework SP1.1 - 1

KB951847

KB982524

KB2804577

KB2833940

KB2844285

What shall I try next?

Let automatic updates try to install them.

Oh and can you answer the question I posted here?

I am attempting to auto install 5 updates, will advise.

I cannot answer your question as none of those came up anywhere that I could see.
