I bought a My passport Western Digital 1 TB external Hard Drive not to long ago. and today i decided to create a new partition on my hard drive to make it bootable with a version of ubuntu. I tried to make a the second partition using Acronis True image 2013, but when it was doing the process of making the new partition the program crashed and shut down my computer.

So, i turn on my computer and I notice that it wasn't recognizing the external HD. I unplug it and plugged back in in every USB port that the computer has, and it just doesn't read it. I checked on the devices on the control panel, and on the Disk Management, and the computer is not reading the external HD.

any ideas on how I can get my external HD working back again?

thanks!

Or does anybody know, how to make a new partition on a HD that doesn't have any partitions?

I like to use Parted Magic for this... really powerful. You create it as a disk (don't copy) and then boot using it to use it effectively.

That program is awesome, thank you. I had to create a new msdos partition table. apparently it had a corrupted partition table.

It is working fine now. Thanks.
