I would like to reinstall XP from usb on my notebook (Amilo 1635) due to a broken CD Drive. I have tried already several tools (e.g. WintoFlash) to prepare the Usb stick, changed BIOS to "Boot from USB" but the installation never started.

My guess would be now that that Usb-Sticks I used do not have the boot function.

A USB is a USB. Perhaps try WinSetupFromUSB.
