Hi all,

following problem:

My computer is running very slow.  It happened suddenly from one day to another.

I checked for a virus or similar with Malwarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy and AVG. Nothing was found (checked another time a week later, same result).

The Task Manager showed that only 1,5 of 4 GB RAM are used. The CPU is at nearly 0%. That seems not to be a problem.

But when I open the Ressource Manager it shows that my hard disk has 100% time with maximal activity without writing much (most of the time: nothing). While being inactive (I am doing nothing except viewing the Ressource Manager) there are some tasks which bother me (mainly svchost local service network restricted). Sometimes they go away and the computer is working properly, sometimes not. Another important point is that the answering time of the tasks who are doing smth with my hard disk are often over 5000 (the record was 16.000).

Even if my computer is working nearly properly (you can work but need to wait for each website 2 minutes and for a program to start nearly 5 minutes) you often see the "no response" (don't know how it is called in english, sorry for that!) at the upper window of the program.

I downloaded Speedfan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpeedFan) and did an online analysis. Here are the results:

http://www.hddstatus.com/hdrepshowreport.php?ReportCode=7224304&ReportVerification=626C94B9

The funny thing about these results is that I did (more than one time) chkdsk (I think with the values: /f /r ). He found something and repaired it. Could it be that I forgot one time the value /r and the repaired some important thing but didn't recover it so my computer is going crazy?

I don't know what i can do anymore; tried my best and hopefully someone can help me furthermore. Do I need a new hard disk like the online analysis of speed fan suggests?

Thanks in advance!

@Louis: I already read that topic, but the only things i could do are cleaning the inside of my computer (will do it when I have more free time) and the System File Checker (is it only for XP? I get a 404 when I tried to access it).

Here is the speccy link: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/NcaWcnPQ7l455eAI3YNBUBC

You had not posted the Speccy at the time that I had asked for that information.  If you look at the time stamp in both hamluis's and my replies you will see that we both posted similar request at the same moment.

Since hamluis responded first I will leave this topic to him. :thumbup2:

Please...run the chkdsk /r command from the command prompt.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/windows-elevated-command-prompt/

Once in the comand prompt, type chkdsk /r and hit Enter.

I did chkdsk /r with administrator rights.

After checking and doing the automatic reboot he said that my volume C: is okay and there are no errors.

It said nothing about D: but all programs and windows and so on are on C:, so I think it is not necessary to explicitly check D:.

Will clean the inside of my computer tomorrow.

You have a number of svchost processes that could be related to your problems.  You also have uTorrent installed.

You have various errors citing AML, which has been linked to malware.

You have many critical updates missing.

I'd say that there is a good chance that your system is infected, worst case.

You also have Wise Care 365 version 2.13 (Version: 2.13) and Wise Game Booster 1.12 (Version: 1.12) installed.  Applications like these two are more likely to cause problems than provide any system improvement, IMO...I suggest uninstalling each since they may actually burden your system.

I mentioned a svhost process in my first post, if this is the fault, what can I do about it?

Is uTorrent certainly bad?

I never heard of AML, but I checked various times with Malwarebytes Anti Malware, AVG and Spybot Search & Destroy and they found nothing. Will check this night another time.

Any more help concerning AML would be greatly appreciated.

It would be nice if you tell me which (critical) updates are missing. I just checked my Firefox Plugins and all activated Plugins seem to be up to date.

Until this point I always thought that my computer is up to date. Anything I can change in my behaviour?

I will uninstall them asap. What about CCleaner? I primarly use it to disable autostart entries, but secondly I clean the regristry.

Just wanted to thank you for your effort and time you are putting into my problem! Thanks!

Belarc Advisor will list the missing updates.

You should not use Ccleaner to clean the registry, this can have disaterous results, and those that you have aren't worth the risk.

Utorrets are peer-to-peer downloads, what ever infection is on the computer you are sharing with can become your infection, it is just not worth it.

To add to what Dan had to say, see Are Torrents Safe Info - http://www.infocarnivore.com/tag/are-torrents-safe/ AND QMan On Malware, Torrents, Cracks, etc. - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/500445/all-started-with-sweetpacks-malware/ .  After reading...you decide.

If the applications which you listed in your check for malware...were 100% effective...there would be no need for special tools to try to overcome malware.  The fact that such tools exist and are used daily here at BC in malware situations...well, you draw your own conclusions about the reasons why this site is highly recommended to users with malware problems.

The only thing I know about AML is the fact that a Google of those letters turns up This.  Seems obvious to me that the possibility of infection is there.

As for helping...we like to try to help, that's why we volunteer here :).

The scan with Malwarebytes and Spybot found nothing. I just thought that virusses, trojan horses etc. would be discovered and when updating they could discover old versions of a virus (or whatever).

Okay, I will stop cleaning the regristry and read the articles about torrents.

Belarc Advisor only showed (only) two critical security updates, both concering Adobe Flash Player which I updated a few hours ago and is up to date! (I compared my version number with the one suggested to download).

Another thing I noticed:

The graphic of my cursor has sometimes some problems, didn't know how to do a screenshot with the cursor showing on it (Druck S-Abf and the Snipping Tool don't show the cursor). Additionaly if I click the computer clicks in a distance of two letters away (to the left side). Don't know if this is important, just wanted to let you know.

Any clue what to do now?

Edit #1: Here is a little screenshot of the cursor: http://img3.fotos-hochladen.net/thumbnail/dsc0064pbdmf9xjwk_thumb.jpg

Do yourself a favor and initiate a new topic in the Am I Infected forum.  You need to eliminate that possibility.
