I need help... I continually get a windows install popup and some type of malware when I boot up leaving a internet explorer window open with nothing in it. Housecall antivirus detected a svchost program running. I cant seem to find it. I've also tried to install XP SP2, but it would abort during the final stages of the process. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello NJDJM and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

Svchost.exe is a valid windows process and the ones I see in the log are correct. They are not malicious.

My guess is that the setup message at startupis related to this entry:

O4 - Startup: Sonic INSTALLit! Setup.lnk = ?

It appears thatit is either left-over from a previous install and was not cleaned up properly. You can go into MsConfig and uncheck this item so it does not run at startup and then see if the message comes back. If not, then that's what it is.

There is 1 housekeeping item that can be cleaned out so let's do that while you are here.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Other than that you are good to go.

I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.
