Hello, I'm having trouble my IE continuously freezing. I get a message that IE (not responding). face book always seems to freeze. I usually have close out IE and start over. I have ran different virus and root scans and nothing so far. I have also been reading about how to manage "add-on's" . But I have no idea on what I'm looking for..?? Thank you for your interest and help. Andy.

Thanks :).

Your Speccy report reflects anomalies:

    a.  No identified hard drive, first time I've seen such.  Could indicate a problem with your hard drive.

    b.  No identified optical drive

    c.  Home network but no sharing

    d.  Windows install dating to 2006, no critical updates before Jan 2013.

You are running 1.5GB of RAM.

You have Lexmark software installed, yet no Lexmark printer.

You have Windows Search 4.0 installed, this has been known to cause problems in XP.

Your Windows Installer version is outdated by several years, 4.5 is the current version.

You reflecct both IE 7 and IE 8 as being installed.  I believe that's impossible unless your IE files are definitely messed up.  I would uninstall IE 8 (using Add/Remove Programs)  and then reinstall IE 8.  See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/ie-8-worldwide-languages to download.

Well...the report by Speccy is just a tool to look at the system.  It is not a fix or standard for anything, it just allows us to see what may be reflected for a system which we don't have in front of us.

There is no good or bad Speccy report...and any anomalies between what is and what is reported...could always be a problem with Speccy.

How is the system running?

Louis

I had reinstalled IE8 and I was wondering if it made a difference. The computer is still running the same. Andy.

Exactly what do you intend to "repair"...when whatever the problem might be...it has yet to be defined?

Freezing...is typically a sign of a possible hardware problem...a possible overheating problem...or possible problems with the file system or Windows.

I suggest that you run the long hard drive diagnostic...to eliminate the hard drive.  But your Speccy doesn't reflect any data for either an optical drive or a hard drive.

Do the following:  Start/Run...type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

Scroll down to Disk Drives and double-click on it.  Double-click the revealed detail.  On the General tab, first line, it lists the hard drive model number....post that.

Staying in Device Manager...scroll down to DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Double-click as you did for the hard drives...post the detail.

User Guide, SeaTools for DOS

Download, SeaTools for DOS

Please read the first link...then go to second link, accept agreement, download the utility, following Seagate instructions for use.  Change the boot order so that the system boots from the optical drive first.  Run the long/extended hard drive test on the diagnostic.

Post the results, please.
