Hi...I am very new to this and have never "fixed" my own PC,but hear from my niece you all are fantastic at figuring out the craziness of the cyer world...TKU!

I will explain as best as i can. :)

2wks ago, giant red lettering in boxes came on my screen and said my PC was infected and I must

get this "anti virus" protector....  When I clicked on it, it said for like $99...I had heard this was a scam, so i continued to by pass it and choose the "unrecommended" , unproptected, dangerous sentence.

This worked for 2 weeks...and that screen came on with every click...was very irritating...but i figured it would go away ( I had heard that)...anyway, after 2 weeks of this( 10 days?) one morning all was well and i had no warnings. PC worked fine....

THEN PC  WENT BLACK WHILE I WAS USING IT AND A BLUE SCREEN WITH WHITE LETTERING CAME ON AND SAID IF THIS HAD HAPPENED this once, just shut off PC and restart...I did.

After a few hours of working fine, the screen again went black and the blue screen and white writing came on again.

With 2nd time, it said to click F8 for safe mode...

I did.

Went on a FULL scan. about an hour. But next to each program( windows32???) it said "not tested"

system locked".

well after the scan, I shut down my PC and rebooted...It came up fine....for a day...then again the blue screen. I again ran a full scan in safe mode.

Same results...

NOW I have booted up my PC again and am hoping it stays online long enough for me to get this question out..AM I DAMAGING MY COMPUTER ????

I have only downloaded "Download Destination" so I can listen to audio books from the libraries.

No music no games...I don't use them...Only go on ebay, PBS, real estate, research stuff...email,

I have a lot of pictures for my art.

What is wrong? Infected?...Overloaded?...Uninformed operator?

I have Windows xp7

Thank you for any suggestions you can give me...

Best

Hello...sorry it took so long to respond...PC went black/and off...I have just now started in as usual.

The site (?) is "Overdrive.com"...(the "Ga.Download Destinations" was not a program and i did not download it.)

OH! just before this all started, I opened an email from "FedExp"....it said I had a package...and I was expecting one...but

..uhoh...and it was not my name when I saw the email...could this be how the virus? got all into my PC????

I think I remembered too late you are suppose to watch for this?

Tks..for all your thoughts.

I just downloaded the "malware" you recommended above...tks!

I will run a scan now.

Hello sip135
What is your Operating System?

What did MalwareBytes find?
Can you run these....

Please download Rkill by Grinler and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • If using Vista, right-click on it and Run As Administrator.
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
  • Do not reboot the computer, you will need to run the application again.

    Please Download TDSSkiller
    Launch it.
Click on change parameters-Select TDLFS file system
    Click on "Scan".
Please post the LOG report(log file should be in your C drive)

Do not change the default options on scan results.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
    Click on Delete.
    Confirm each time with Ok.
You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

    Last run ESET.
    • Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    • Click the esetonlinebtn.png button.
    • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.png icon on your desktop.
    • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
    • Click the Start button.
    • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
    • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
    • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
    • Scan potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
    • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
    • When the scan completes, click List Threats
    • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
    • Click the Back button.
    • Click the Finish button.
    • NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.
Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
    Checkmark the following checkboxes:
    • Flush DNS
    • Report IE Proxy Settings
    • Reset IE Proxy Settings
    • Report FF Proxy Settings
    • Reset FF Proxy Settings
    • List content of Hosts
    • List IP configuration
    • List Winsock Entries
    • List last 10 Event Viewer log
    • List Installed Programs
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

WOW! You know the computer! I am still digesting the questions...but!

ok...I ran the maleware when i went to bed...this morning the computer was off and I turned it on regularly...

As You see, it is working ...so far...

How can i tell if the Malware found anything?

I will go through your recommendations step by step...as best as I can "get" them.

You are very kind to list such a detailed 'find it out" system of clicks!

Lately, my PC not only goes into "sleep" mode...it turns OFF after a while of non use...like an hour...

and I have to start it again. It did not ever do this B4...just a note, as I don't know if any of these is related to each other...

Thank you again...i will let you know what occurs...step by step...thank you

(Your pic does not seem likea NJ view???, but it's a great one)

best

Forget about speed up they're a waste of time.

Malwarebytes log..The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply.

When you open the MalwareBytes (MBAM) App along the top are tabs. One is named Logs.

Run the other tools also.

Hi...Thank you for your continued help. My desktop was working yesterday and at the end of the day there was a white page with hori. colored static lines and the screen then went to the blue with the white writing....I turned it off.

This Morning, that sceen came up with the start. I turened it off, unplugged it and started it. A grey screen came on and said it would go back to a certain time ..."restore"...It was the only thing to choose...so i did.

Then the desktop came up and the Maleware icn was not on it, and asked if I wanted to download itagain...I did and am now running a full scan.

When that is comple, I will go to your question and get the log you have requested...and copy and paste it to you...Thank you again for your patience...

I am on my friend's laptop as it is scanning my PC...

Have a good morning...

Best
