Hello, I'm trying to build a computer, but I'm trying to keep the cost down.
Can somebody please tell me if this would work or not? Also, can you tell me what it'd be capable to do? As in, would it be able to run Skyrim, Crysis 3, etc.

Thanks!

Is there anything I can do to drastically increase performance?

There isn't a whole lot you can do apart from getting a more powerful graphics card which will further exceed the budget.

The 7870 GHZ Edition would be a large leap in terms of performance and the cheapest one without rebates is at Newegg for $200.

Skyrim doesn't need a huge graphics card to run, it's fairly old.  If you use certain graphics mods, you will need one of the better cards.  You also need to pay for a copy of Windows.  That's a dual core CPU, you should consider getting a quad if your budget allows for it.  For about $10, you can get an AMD FX-6350 Vishera 3.9GHz or for $30 more, you can get an AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz.  You will need to change out your motherboard, like a MSI 970A-G43 AM3+ AMD 970.  If you go for a better graphics card, you will probably need a better power supply.

Do I need a PCI express 3.0? Can you recommend a better video card for me?

Okay, so I chose to go with your recommended motherboard and the AMD FX 8320. Would the Black series GTX 560 and a 600 Watt power supply be good?

I'm not just looking to run Skyrim. I'm looking to build a well rounded budget PC.

I chose the powercolor 7850 2gb yet to be delivered, so I don't know the performance yet.
