Hi

I think I have a problem with too much activity and usage while I’m away from my computer that might be male ware. This is a recurring situation. When I walk away from my computer for about 20-30 minutes and return I notice the hard drive very active and the CPU at about 10-35%. But there are no active programs running (that I know of) that would do this for so long.  As soon as  I click the desktop this activity stops right away. I've tried turning off indexing but this changes nothing. Otherwise my computer operates fine. Nothing shows on scans with MSE, MBAM and Super Anti-Spyware. I did have a virus cleaning earlier this year on this site and was given a clean bill of health. Since then I've modified my online activities to avoid malware. Thanks in advance for your help

And thanks for all the previous help I’ve gotten from this fine site.

CPU at 10-35% is not very high, how many processes you have?

Please press Ctrl+Shift+Esc then at the lower left corner it will told you how much processes you have.

79 processes....and the activity is only when I'm away for a time from my computer and this activity does eventually stop. Maybe I shouldn't worry because it's just  "windows doing its thing" this is what I was told on another forum. I was also told that I might as well leave indexing off because it's not that necessary in the real world at this time,  and could slow down my computer.

My computer have about 68 processes in idle state, and its fine. Your computer may slow down after long-time usage or heat. Try see that your computer is clean and nothing block the fan, if your computer is too hot, systems will terminate.

The above is what I'll post because if I try to post additional text a dialog box pops up: An Error Occurred "You do not have permission for that action"

Because of the way you have this computer set up, you may need to run this on both Hard Drives -

Run a Disk Check on your C: or main drive(s) in Windows:
•Click Start and open Computer
•Right-click on C: (or your hard drive letter) and select Properties
•Click on the Tools tab
•Under Error-checking click the Check Now... button
•Mark the 2 boxes next to Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
•Click on the Start button
•When the message box pops up, click the Schedule disk check button and Restart your computer
•Once your computer restarts it will check the drive, don't press any keys so that it is allowed to do so

The program takes about 1 hour (on average) to run the 5 stages -

Do not Reboot during the Check -

Then I think you need to run sfc /scannow -

Start > Programs > Accessories > Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator > Type sfc /scannow and hit Enter - Note the space between c and / as it must be there.

This should oly take about 15 minutes (on average)

Did you run ComboFix recently, as this pops up in your errors -

Thanks -

I installed, ran, and uninstalled Combof fix as per instuctions given to me on this site earlier this year.

About the way my computer is set up:
Are you referring to my Steam applications library that is shared between 2 HD's? I was running out of space on my primary drive at the time, and luckily for me Steam finally allowed games to be installed/stored at more than one location. I'm not using a RAID. The 2nd drive is for Steam and a large TrueCrypt container.

Also, why won't your site allow me to paste the entire Results.txt ?
Thanks for your help. I'll be awaiting your response.

Hi again
I thought I should keep you up to date with this development. My computer stopped its hyper-activity or whatever it was doing- in other words it has calmed down completely for some reason. It has has not been this quiet in idle since I can remember, but I only remember the very recent past because about 3 weeks ago I put the innards of my system into a new case so I could run cooler. My old case was a ten 10 year design in which my newish Phenom II was running too hot. The thing is my old case had an HD activity light that was barely visible unlike my new case where it is very visible so I don't know how far back my problem goes. At any rate, I've been running my system and it's been quiet for many hours now. Maybe Old Timer's junk removal tool did the trick? I don't want to waste any more of your time so maybe if my system stays quiet, we can close this topic?
