Hi there, I have a problem with constantly multiplying iexplore.exe process in the background. If I leave my laptop on for a couple of hours I can have in excess of 100 instances in the task manager. They don't use up much memory or eat CPU time but are obviously not supposed to be there. At fist I thought it was Malware related and I posted a topic in the malware removal forum (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/497791/possible-rootkit-issue/) I went through the process and was finally declared malware free but I still have the issue mentioned above. I was directed to post here regarding the issue, so could anyone help me out?

Cheers

Well...I'd take a look at what you have installed as programs...the varying services that these programs have established which run in the background (scan, check for updates, etc.) and what browser add-ons that you have installed.  IMO, those usually account for the majority of svchost processes which run in the background of Windows.

I also forgot to mention...any program that has capability for gathering any type of data from the Internet, with your permission...will also contribute to increased browser processes running.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer log

  List Installed Programs

List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link.

Who is the manufacturer of this drive?

I would download/run the long diagnostic for said drive.

I don't see anything glaring with installed apps...other than Daemon Tools (can cause problems)...and your java is out of date, weakening system protection from malware.

Thank you for your response, I am currently moving around western China and will have to wait several days before I can get back to my problematic computer. I should be back on the 28th and will run the diagnostic you suggested and let you know the results. until then don't take my lack of response as nulification of the thread, as I will get back to you. I hope this doe not cause any problems. thank you fir your help and suggestions so far.

Running the diagnostics tonight, sorry I'm not near my laptop for enough time to run the diagnostic and I cant leave it plugged in and running as I am staying in hostels and out for most of the day. The HDD manufacturer is Samsung/Seagate and I will be using the SeaTools software from their website to run the long diagnostic. I will post anything that the software finds a little later on, thanks for your patience.
