Looks like Vundo is already dead, but let's check -

Move HijackThis

Your HJT is not in a permanent folder. We need to move it, please follow these steps:
  • Click Start » Run » ( type: C:\Program Files ) » OK.
  • A window will open.
  • Click File » New » Folder. ( name it HJT or any of your choice )
  • Move HJT files in this folder.
The program creates backup files that we may need to use later. If the program is in a Temporary folder, files may be deleted by you or automatically if your system is set to empty temp files.

====

Please download VundoFix.exe to your Desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • It will make a log in C:\vundofix.txt, I need you to post that later.
====

In your next post, please post a new HijackThis log and the contents of C:\vundofix.txt.

I can't find the log from VundoFIX.txt as I did the scan in safe mode and delete files I also did a scan with the symantec vundo removal tool (norton) in safe mode.
I did downloaded a lot programs that I probably shouldn't what to take off and how? I downloaded the spynomore program and removed it,same with the adware alert but I see them in the log for some reason...
Thanks again for your time I do apreciate it.
Marybel :thumbsup:

Welcome back Bnns,

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions or save it as a text document, and use them as a reference. If you have any questions regarding the fix, please ask us before proceeding. Please make sure that you follow this in the right order as I have listed.

=====================================

VundoFix.txt is also found here - C:\VundoFix.txt - Post the contents if you found it.

You installed many antispyware programs in there. One is SpyNoMore, this is ok to use, but Ad-Aware and Spybot is already a good combination, it's what I use. And another one is AdwareAlert, it is listed before as a rogue antispyware, but it is delisted, well even if it's already delisted, I will not use it if I have Ad-Aware and Spybot already. Here's a list of Rouge antispywares. Just tell me if you want to remove these programs so I can post the instructions for you (note this is optional) :thumbsup:

=====================================

We must disable Spyware Doctor for it may interfere with the changes we need to make. You can re-enable this when we finished all of our work.

Disable Spyware Doctor
  • Open Spyware Doctor.
  • Click the OnGuard button on the left side.
  • Uncheck Activate OnGuard.
=====================================

Show Hidden Files and Folders

Click Start » My Computer » Tools » Folder Options. Select the View tab.
  • Check - Show hidden files and folders
  • Uncheck - Hide file extensions for known types
  • Uncheck - Hide protected operating system files
Click Yes to confirm, then OK to exit.

=====================================

Boot into Safe Mode. Please restart your computer and before the Windows logo appear, tap F8 repeatedly. A menu should appear, select Safe Mode from the menu and then hit Enter on your keyboard. (this will take a while, so don't worry, just wait)

=====================================

Uninstall Programs

Click Start » Control Panel » Add/Remove Programs, and then Uninstall these programs (if present): MyWaySA
=====================================

Run HijackThis

Please open HJT, click Do a system scan only, and then place a checkmark beside each of these entries:

Thanks for your reply.Yes I do want to take off the programs that I don't need.
I bought the spyware doctor so I would like to keep that one,LOL and the ad-aware and the spyboot search and destroy are freebies but both do wonders! I would like to keep them as well.
I dowloaded a lot pf programs when my pc was acting up,got paranoid and started downloading a lot of programs before I found this site.
Please let me know what to do beside the instructions you gave me,I already printed the post (reply) and I am ready to follow your advice.

BTW do I have to scan/check the PC in safe mode?

Thanks In advance

Ok, we'll remove those programs on the next round. In the meantime, you can now follow my previous instructions :thumbsup:

BTW do I have to scan/check the PC in safe mode?

What do you mean scan/check? You mean HijackThis fixes? Yes they would be done in Safe Mode as I instructed above.

But if you mean Panda online scanner, NO, it should be done in Normal mode because you don't have access to the Internet while in Safe mode that's why I asked you to "Restart your computer". :flowers:

Good luck, take your time :huh:

Click Start » My Computer » Tools » Folder Options. Select the View tab.

I see that you already updated your Java, good job.

I can't understand your question -

Are the folders still exposed the ones you told me to uncheck?

What folders?

Let's now remove the antispyware programs in there as you requested. We will also remove some of your startups (which are not required to load at boot) to make your pc run a little faster at startup.

=====================================

=====================================

Boot into Safe Mode. Please restart your computer and before the Windows logo appear, tap F8 repeatedly. A menu should appear, select Safe Mode from the menu and then hit Enter on your keyboard. (this will take a while, so don't worry, just wait)

=====================================

Uninstall Programs

Click Start » Control Panel » Add/Remove Programs, and then Uninstall these programs (if present): SpyNoMore
AdwareAlert

=====================================

Run HijackThis

Please open HJT, click Do a system scan only, and then place a checkmark beside each of these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SNM] C:\Program Files\SpyNoMore\SNM.exe /startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdwareAlert] C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert\adwarealert.Exe -boot

After placing all the checkmarks, close all windows (except HJT), and then hit Fix Checked. When it finishes, exit HJT.

=====================================

Delete these folders -

C:\Program Files\SpyNoMore\
C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert\

=====================================

Click Start > Run > type: MSconfig > OK.
Click the Startup tab above.
Remove the checkmark beside these items -

igfxtray
igfxpers
msmsgs

Click OK, and when asked to reboot/restart, click Yes.

=====================================

Once back to Normal mode, run HJT again and post the new log here, also tell me how your computer is running now.

I didn't see this 2 programs while running in safe mode neither in add/remove programs nor folders only in the hijackthis log:
SpyNoMore
AdwareAlert

Placed a check mark on this 3:
igfxtray
igfxpers
msmsgs

I just notice the norton program running and I don't have norton anitsypware in my computer.
Any unnecesary programs running that you think of? would get rid of them just say so.

About the hidden files and folders I check/uncheck some items:

From your post:

Show Hidden Files and Folders

Click Start » My Computer » Tools » Folder Options. Select the View tab.
Check - Show hidden files and folders
Uncheck - Hide file extensions for known types
Uncheck - Hide protected operating system files

Leave them like that or check/uncheck the way they originally were?

About the panda report are those cookies harmful?
What to do to remove them? I run the ad-aware /spyboot search and destroy and delete them but they always manage to come back... how to get rid of them?

Panda Report:

Incident Status Location
Spyware:Cookie/Belnk Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Benjamin\Cookies\benjamin@belnk[1].txt
Spyware:Cookie/Belnk Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Benjamin\Cookies\benjamin@dist.belnk[2].txt

Thanks again

Marybel :thumbsup:

Hi Marybel :thumbsup:,

To answer your questions..

I just notice the norton program running and I don't have norton anitsypware in my computer.

Are you also using Norton as your AntiVirus? I see that you already have McAfee, and it's not a good practice to have 2 AntiVirus running at once, it will only make your system slow, or rarely - crash.

About the Hidden Files and Folders thingy, I usually ask the users I help to Hide them again (original settings) when we're finish cleaning their computer. (I'll post my speech at the end of this post)

About the panda report are those cookies harmful?
What to do to remove them? I run the ad-aware /spyboot search and destroy and delete them but they always manage to come back... how to get rid of them?

No. Cookies are not harmful, they're like snakes without heads. To get remove your cookies, just do this -

Clear IE's Cookies and Cache

  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer.
  • Go to Control Panel » Internet Options » General tab.
  • Click the Delete Cookies.
  • Next to it, Click the Delete Files button.
  • When prompted, place a check in: Delete all offline content, click OK.

Well, I see that your log is already clean, so I'll post my closing speech now :flowers:

-------------------

Your log is clean! Posted Image If you still have any other problems/questions, just post them here.

Now that you're clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

1.) Re-Hide System Files and Folders:
  • Click Start
  • Open My Computer
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
  • Select the View tab
  • Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option
  • Select the Hide protected operating system files option
  • Click Yes to confirm
  • Click OK
2.) Reset and Re-enable your System Restore

We need to do this to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)
  • Click Start » Run » ( type: SYSDM.CPL ) » OK
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check - Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply.
  • Uncheck - Turn off System Restore.
  • Click OK.
3.) How to Prevent Re-Infection

Please take your time reading on this list, it is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Windows Updates (a must!) - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this, open Internet Explorer, then and select Tools » Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • Firewall (a must!) - It is definitely a must have. Two good free versions are Kerio and ZoneAlarm.
  • Anti-Virus (a must!) - It is also a must have. Two good programs are Avast and AVG, they're both free.
    Note: You must only use 1 (one) AV because if you have 2 AVs, it will conflict with each other and will only make your system slow.
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein.
