Hi

Computer is Fujitsu Amilo laptop running Windows XP Pro SP3

I have made no recent software or hardware changes and have Rapport running, so tried to uninstall this as per suggestion on similar topic

However, when I run in safe mode  (which works just fine) and use add/remove programs to remove Rapport I get a message saying " the windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode or if the windows installer is not correctly installed." I don't think the latter is true as I removed some other programs perfectly fine earlier tonight.

However my computer crashes as soon as the wallpaper appears when not in safe mode, so it seems a bit of a catch-22. All bright ideas gratefully received

thanks

susan

Hi susan99

It is hard to say what is causing the issue without analyzing the crash dumps. Since Rapport is known to cause this issue, let us remove it first. Please follow the below steps.

1 ) Download SafeMSI.exe from the below link.

    http://windowsitpro.com/content/content/83387/safemsi.zip

2 ) Run the tool from safe mode to enable the uninstaller service. Reastart the system to take affect the changes

3 ) No try uninstalling Rapport . If success, reboot the system again in to safe mode.

4 ) Rename the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Trusteer to TrusteerBKP

If the issue still remains, zip and upload the minidump folder in next reply.

Hi

thanks for speedy reply.

Downloaded and ran the software which siad Windows installer service has now been enabled.

restarted machine and tried to uninstall rapport. However got the same message from Add/remove programs as before (" the windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode or if the windows installer is not correctly installed." )

I think I've managed to upload the minidumps to mediafire too.

Hi

Please follow the below steps.

1 ) Download Serviwin from this link - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/serviwin.zip

2 ) Open Serviwin and you will see a screenshot similar to the below one.

 serviwin.gif

4 ) Scroll down until you see an entry named RapportCerberus32_50022 similar to the below one.

rapport1.jpg

5 ) Right click on the Rapport entry and choose change startup type --> Disabled

rapport2.jpg

6 ) You will be asked for permission to disable the service. Press Yes to confirm. Verify that it is disabled in startup type column of Serviwin.

7 ) Now reboot the system in to normal mode. Hopefully you will be able to boot to the desktop. Now uninstall Rapport and rename the folder according to the instructions in my previous post. You may need to change the folder options to View hidden files to see the Rapport folder inside the application data directory.

You guys are amazing. Laptop all working fine now.

I filled in the rapport uninstall questionnaire, but I find it pretty shocking that software "pushed" onto customers could break my computer's functionality so badly and with so little clue as to the problem. Without bleeping computer and you guys I would probably have had to jettison my laptop completely.

Thank you again.
