Hi all,

My laptop connects to my home wireless network without any issues but whenever I try going online via Firefox/IE, I get a message saying "unable to connect, problem loading page". My other wireless devices can all connect to the internet without any issues so the problem is isolated to this one laptop.

I've gone into the command prompt to check the ipconfig /all information and the IP addresses, DNS info, and gateways all check out. I can ping google.com successfully from the problematic laptop. I've tried to reboot in Safe Mode with Networking and the internet works in that instance. So I believe there's something running upon normal startup that's preventing me from accessing the internet through my browser. But I have no idea where to start.

The problematic laptop is running WIndows XP (SP2). Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

First thing you should do, IMO...install SP3 and all the critical updates that have been disseminated since SP3.

Then...

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link.

Did you check proxy settings in internet options? Most people don't use a proxy but many malwares will attempt to impose one for their own benefit, and they don't always get it right.

I couldn't get the Snapshot to work - error message said it couldn't establish a connection with the server. The MiniToolBox content is as follows:

Did you check proxy settings in internet options? Most people don't use a proxy but many malwares will attempt to impose one for their own benefit, and they don't always get it right.

I just checked. There was a proxy setting for Firefox but changing it to "no proxy" did not solve the issue. There was no proxy set for IE.
