How can I use my desk top to make phone calls. I am a novice so what do I need. I have speakers, and a place to plug a microphone that is all I can tell you. I have windows XP service pack 3, and of course it needs to be free. Thanks in advance

your mic should work, and these are all free to download and use, but all have add ins that can be purchased.

Gmail is 100% free. You can get your own real free phone number. Skype costs money. Never heard of Tango.

well, skype CAN cost money, but only if you use to make international calls, if not, skype is 100% free. ( i use this as my instant messenger as well, and yes, all non international calls are free.)

that is strange, i just made a call to make sure, and I still have never been asked to pay 1 cent to skype. are you dialing a local number? I just called my home number, and had no issues, and no prompts to make any type of payment? I also use this on my cell, and also have never paid for this service.

well, not too sure about that one, like I said, i use this not a lot, but i do use, and have never been asked to pay, maybe I got grandfathered into an old version, really not too sure. I did, however check with another tech, and he said he was asked to pay when he used it, so you are probably correct, and i need to see why i have not been asked to pay on my version.

"Free Skype internet calls and cheap calls to phones online - Skype"

Only internet calls are free according to that.

Maybe you were grandfathered in to an early program?

EDIT: Just saw your reply. We were posting at the same time.
