I can find no cause or source - no popups with which I have had problems - for the constant playing of background discussions like from a news channel.   The audio on my laptop sucks so I cannot hear what they are saying but it is loud enough to be annoying not to mention how it got there.

I have malwarebytes running and it never finds anything wrong.

Is there some test I can run to find what's up.

I just recently found a "we are update" program installed I never asked for and finally managed to get rid of it but the background chatter still happening.

Any suggestions? Thx

Sorry I just realized you have an audio forum and I probably should have put it there.  Is there a way to move it? Thanks.

The forum that you looked at...is for audio applications/programs, not audio problems :).

In any case, I think that you may be infected, so I'm moving this to a malware forum where they can check.

Hello,let's look a bit further.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Please Download TDSSkiller
Launch it.
Click on change parameters-Select TDLFS file system
Click on "Scan".
Please post the LOG report(log file should be in your C drive)

Do not change the default options on scan results.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Delete.
Confirm each time with Ok.
You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Last run ESET.
  • Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
  • Click the esetonlinebtn.png button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
  • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.png icon on your desktop.
  • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
  • Scan potentially unwanted applications
  • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
  • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.
  • NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

The 2nd program, the  TDSSKiller showed 419 objects but no problems found.

I haven't a clue what the results of these indicates just that there were errors.

I did notice something about  Google Chrome which I do not want on my computer & I did not think I had it isn't listed on my programs.

So that's everything.

I will watch for your reply thanks.

Hello,

The 2nd program, the  TDSSKiller showed 419 objects but no problems found.

You mean the last 2 lines said no infections found?

I haven't a clue what the results of these indicates just that there were errors.

Are you referring to the Adw log?

Did you run ESET?

How is the audio issue?

The Audio issue seems to have been resolved.    I did a system restore to an earlier date and it never happened after that whether or not that's the cause I'm not sure.

Yes, the last two lines said no infections found.

Here is the ESET thanks for looking

Well - for some reason I cannot copy it I keep geting

ÿþ1

The last lines say

Detected Object Count 0

Then it says deinitialize success

I don't know why when I try to copy it I just get ÿþ1

I think the last piece is in the Hosts file ..

Reset the Hosts file back to the default condition by using the Fix - It button in that link.

I;m afraid you lost me?  WHAT AM I FIXING?  Inability to copy?  ESET? my audio?  It says this reset is for Windows XP and I don't have that?

Too much grinding my teeth I suddenly find myself in excruciating pain with my jaw locked in spasm.

Well that's one way to "let go" of a problem - get a new one.   My IQ seems to have dropped 50 percent  mind numbing pain doesn't describe it accurately enough.

Thanks for your assistance - going to go see if a nice cold ice pack will help.  Count me out of commission.

The reason you may get that symbol is an error in your Hosts file. So I wanted to reset that.

Oh, well thank you, I'm not sure what a host file is or how it does what it does but its right which is good for me.

Every day I realize no matter how much I learned the day before there are still millions of things I don't know.

You're welcome!!

When using the Internet most people connect to web sites, ftp servers or other Internet servers by connecting to a domain name, as in www.bleepingcomputer.com. Internet applications, though, do not communicate via domain names, but rather using IP addresses, such as 192.168.1.1. Therefore when you type a domain name in your program that you wish to connect to, your application must first convert it to an IP address that it will use to connect to.

The way these hostnames are resolved to their mapped IP address is called Domain Name Resolution. On almost all operating systems whether they be Apple, Linux, Unix, Netware, or Windows the majority of resolutions from domain names to IP addresses are done through a procedure called DNS.

Thanks that's interesting detail I can amaze my friends with - they might see me in a whole new light!  - might even find myself a girlfriend.   It pays to know stuff I'll add this to my limited but growing knowledge!
