My apologies...I wasn't ignoring this topic, just waiting on the Speccy Snapshot to be posted.  It reflects a lot of useful data that can help solve your situation.

OK, now that I have some data to work with, let's see what's obvious :).

Windows Installation Date : 13/07/2012 10:51:02

Your CPU, http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Celeron-Dual-Core-T1600-Notebook-Processor.35945.0.html

Running Vista with only 1GB of RAM...I'd consider that asking for trouble.  It can be done, but users won't like the results, IMO.

No indication of either hard drive or CPU overheating, no indication of hard drive problems needing further investigation.

Your Windows Update problem...might be solved by running the Fixit at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956702 .  Scroll down to Resollution, then click the button for Win 7, Vista, Server 2008.

You also manifest errors re VSS, which is related to System Restore.  Are you running System Restore?  If so, is it working properly?

My guess at this point...would be that insufficient RAM is your biggest problem, after looking at the programs you have installed.  If that's so, that can ameliorated by adding another 1GB module.

Louis

What's the exact manufacturer and model designation   of your system, please?

The motherboard is Packard Bell, but it's not necessarily a PB system...I need to verify.

I'm not good with currency of anything outside the U.S....but, if I were you and I intended to keep running Vista...I"d just buy 2 2GB moduels, remove the 1GB module...and get on with my life.  I think I'd like the notebook a lot better.  The system accommodates a mximum of 4GB and if you decide to move to a newer version of Windows...the 4GB will get the job done.

Just a reminder...I could be wrong about this ending some/all of your problems...but it's what I would do were I running the system you have.

Download/install BlueScreenView, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html .

Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file.

When autoscan is done (screen comes up), click Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items.

Save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content and paste it into your next reply.

Download BlueScreenView with full install/uninstall support

It's just above the other language versions.
