Hiya,

I have posted this problem in the Malware forum and Nasdaq who was helping me could find no deep rooted problems and suggested posting in this forum to see if I can get more success in finding a solution.  Please have a look at the original thread below on the Microsoft Community forum that referred me to this site.

Phil

above is thread for reference to my problem, have run MBAM, SAS, and my current antivirus, all run clean, was referred to this forum, for the possibility of a deeply embedded infection.

As you can see in the thread, have tried every possible solution to restore system properties, this is my last resort before reinstalling the os. Thank You.

Hi

Your event log shows possibility of a corrupted user profile.

Error: (06/07/2013 08:03:55 AM) (Source: Userenv) (User: KELLY-A2C4769CB)
Description: Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.

Error: (06/07/2013 08:03:55 AM) (Source: Userenv) (User: NT AUTHORITY)
Description: Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

As a test, create a new user profile with admin rights. Name it Test or something you like. Log out the system and log on to this new profile. Report how things works in the new profile.

Hiya BC Advisor,

I have already tried this via the last forum with no change,  but it is interesting to note that it only show the users as Administrator and Guest not the user profile I use (which has administrator rights).

Regards

Phil

Microsoft Security Essentials    Antivirus: Enabled    Company Name: Microsoft Corporation    Product Version: 4.2.223.1

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall Antivirus    Antivirus: Disabled    Company Name: Check Point, LTD.     Product Version: 11.0.000.057

Please uninstall Zone Alarm from your system...and use the Windows Firewall.

Your hard drive appears to be about 10 years old, with an install date of Windows reflecting 21Nov2006.  The errors listed by Event Viewer...could reflect file corruption, file damage, filles missing...which we can try to overcome.

Do you have your Windows XP install disks?

I would think it a good idea to urn the appropriate hard drive diagnostic, just to cover the most basic concept.

Hiya Louis,

Uninstalled zone alarm, and clicked on the link  http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=502&sid=3&lang=en

Below is the options it gives once downloaded.  What option do you want me to use.

Regards

Phil

You will see the following options:

  • QUICK TEST - performs SMART drive quick self-test to gather and verify the Data Lifeguard information contained on the drive.
  • EXTENDED TEST - performs a Full Media Scan to detect bad sectors. Test may take several hours to complete depending on the size of the drive.
  • WRITE ZEROS - writes zeros to the drive with options of Full Erase and Quick Erase. File system and data will be lost.
  • VIEW TEST RESULT - displays the latest test results.

Hiya Louis,

Run the test and it said there were some bad sectors and gave me the option to repair them.  I clicked repair and another dialog box appeared and got a dialog box that said error was detected while repairing bad sectors, please contact WD technical support for help.

Regards

Phil

Not a good sign, IMO.

Moving topic to Internal Hardware where others can weigh in on your drive test results.

I have to agree with Louis, Not a good sign at all. When The WD tool gives that result, the drive is circling the drain.

I would with no delay backup anything I wanted to keep.

Then try to find a replacement drive. I suspect You might have a IDE type drive.

Good Luck

Roger
