I have been having a problem for a while now and it just seems to have gotten worse. My laptop will not allow me to keep network discovery on. I click it on and save the changes but when I check, it is off again. Even so, it still allowed me to see my desktop.

But now, the laptop says there are no other computers on the network. I tried leaving the homegroup but it won't let me do that either. And the desktop sees the laptop but can't access it.

Someone, please help.

I am using BitDefender 2013 rather than Windows firewall. I tried disabling BitDefenders firewall and turning on the windows firewall but the windows firewall won't turn on. I get a message that action center can't turn it on. I tried manually but no matter what I try to do, it only gives an option to use recommende setting but still does not turn on. So I but Bitdefender back on to be safe.

Have you tried disabling the Bitdefender firewall for testing purposes? The Windows Firewall cannot be enabled as long as Bitdefender is still installed.

Download then run Farbar Service Scanner and checkmark all boxes.
Click Scan and then a Notepad text will open. Please Copy-Paste the report on your next reply.

Here is the log. Should I have disabled Bitdefender's firewall before running FSS?

There is nothing wrong with your Windows Firewall according to FSS as the paid version of Bitdefender would disable it automatically. Let's try fixing the missing services keys.

Download and run services repair tool - ServicesRepair.exe then reboot. Post a new FSS scan log.

Edit : Thank you! BC Advisor Broni B) for the file reg key upload hosted on BC database :)

Ran the repair tool and rebooted. Network discovery is back on. Both the laptop and desktop now see each other in the network and can access each other's files. Thank you.

Download Action Center icon fix. Save the reg key on your desktop then right-click and merge. Post a new FSS log.

You are a rare breed -- one who helps without asking for credit, only wanting the all-but-lost common courtesy of saying thank you.
