Who is your ISP

Visit :

www.speedtest.net

please list:

PING

Download speed

Upload speed

Make sure you look and see if it says Mbps or MBps

They are diffrent.

Mbps = megabits per second

MBps=megabytes per second

Also, please put here if you have just a modem, a modem + a router, or a modem/router combination device.

Hi -

I have just added a direct link to Speed Test for you -

Try Speed Test (free test) and only click inside the "laptop" looking device.
Ignore all advertising on the page, as this is unrelated to the test.

See what Download Speed is recorded, also list if you use Wifi or Ethernet (wired) connection.

Do you know what you pay for from your ISP and normal Internet Speed ?

Thank You -

EDIT - Reset the download link -

Thank you for your reply.

Your PING is right where it should be.

You connection speeds are still not telling me what I need to know - please provide this information

Mbps = megabits per second

MBps=megabytes per second

Also, please put here if you have just a modem, a modem + a router, or a modem/router combination device.

You put mbs  - this doesnt tell us anything, its either Mbps or MBps - notice the capitol letters, they matter

Any recent changes that you can think of? Newly installed programs? Updates to the OS or programs?

Have you tried temporarily taking the router "out of the equation"...i.e. connected the computer directly to the modem to see if that changes anything?

8 Mpbs is approx 1MBps

That is a bit slower than ATT - DSL service (not the uverse)

Your old connection speed of 50Mbps would be approx 6MBps

A sudden speed drop to 6x's slower than normal would indicate your service, modem, or router are failing.

Call your ISP and have then check the connection to your home - if that speed it good to the house, then you need to have them remove the router from the equation and use just the modem to make sure that is working properly.

If the connection to the house is good, and the modem is working fine, then perhaps you need to upgrade the FIRMWARE on your router.

Another possiblity is like smax013 mentioned - recently added software, or recently added malware/infections.

That is important - should have added that into your first post.

You should post in the "am I infected, what do I do" thread

Did you install a driver for the ethernet adapter/card/connection?  Is it a "manufactured" computer (i.e. Dell, HP, etc) or a built computer (i.e. one that you built from parts yourself)?
