Avast found the win32 winpatch virus on my laptop which has infected the winlogon.exe and explorer.exe files. Avast can't clean these as they are protected.

I did a search and found someone who fixed it using combofix which I have tried running but doesn't produce a log becuase explorer doesn't work anymore after running combofix. I did this without contacting you which was probably a mistake.

Would appreciate any advice where to go from here.

Moving topic to Am I Infected, where the more knowledgeable can attempt to assist you with your suspicion of malware.
