About a month ago, I bought this laptop, BRAND NEW, and I've had problems with it since the beginning. When I run a speed test, it averages about 2.36 Mpbs download speed and 1.14 Mpbs upload speed. After a strenuous two hour long session with an HP representative, they finally concluded that it wasn't the computer causing the problem, it "must be the router" which is bullbleep. I have a cell phone and a four year old desktop (both in the same room) that run an average of about 12 Mpbs so it can't be the router. The laptop is the ONLY device giving me hell. I've been trying to find solutions ALL DAY and I'm frustrated and ready to scream. After a google search I've found MANY people with the same exact problem with this laptop, but almost none have found solutions (and I haven't found a solution yet that worked). PLEASE, can someone help me???

What antivirus software are you using on the HP?

That shouldn't affect the speed that much. Have you tried with Avast disabled? What are you using to determine the Speed of the connection?

There's no difference when it's disable; I'm using speedtest.net (Also, just general loading times)

I am not biased on any point at all but you bought an HP, it is bound to have a problem.

Its like going to a prostitute, not using a condom and hoping you don't get an STD, it is going to bite, itch or burn.

Return it and get a different brand. Anything but HP.

I would but can't. Best Buy screwed me, I didn't bring it back in fifteen days, and didn't know the return limit was that small.

RecklessX, While everyone is entitled to their opinion that doesn't help the OP at all. You can post your opinions freely in your own thread in The Speak Easy
Pandamoniumrain can you follow This topic and post the information requested. Also are the other devices connected at the same time during your speed test? Have you tried using a lan cable?

Of course I help,

I provide relief to the OP that they are not the only person who thinks HP is as usefull as a prostitute with an STD.

I do own an HP also and barely crank out 2MB/s on the wireless network also.

Going into actual technical work.
You may have an update to the network drivers available which may help at resolving the speed.

To locate which network adapter you have, you can go to: Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Network adapters

and compare to the available ones.

Here is a link specifically for your laptop.

Oh, also, yes, other devices are connected, but usually not running at the same time. Spouses refurbished laptop (which costed 300 dollars less than mine!) Runs an average of 10 Mbps wireless.

When mine is connected by ethernet, it runs about 10.23 Mbps which is still so very disappointing. I expected this laptop to excel in speed, and a refurbished computer is kicking it's butt in wireless speed, and is on par when it is wireless and mine is connected via cable.

DSL internet runs over analog phone lines and requires a username and password to connect to the ISP. You have a direct connection to your ISP and download speeds do not fluctuate like Cable broadband since you don't "share" your bandwidth. The drawback is latency times while you have a direct connection to the DSLAM (ISP network Switch in your neighboorhood)the distance and the amount of connections to DSLAM can dramatically effect transmission rates. Cable broadband is a "shared" bandwidth connection. While download speeds are very fast depending on your level of service if everyone one in your neighboorhood has the same ISP and they are all on at once your speeds can drop by 5mbps. Cable does not require a username and password. Depending on your level of service (assuming you have a 10mbps package) 10mbps download is perfect. If you are paying for a 20mbps package I would call your ISP and complain. As for the difference in speed between your computers your wireless adapter, Ethernet adapter type, firewall settings, antivirus software, and Qos or port forward settings in your router can all affect your connection.

Ok,thanks, I didn't know that. We just have cable, then. Since Tyler is the one who got everything set up, I'm sure he went for the 10Mpbs package, because he doesn't quite know what any of it means. I could try to log all my settings if you'd like? Just let me know, I'll screenshot them, or something.
