microsoft essentials virus and spyware definitions,updating will not complete?

The topic says it all... in Microsoft essentials the virus and spyware definitions...Updating will not complete and the program is consequently not active in my system

MSE is a freeware right? I think the best thing to do is to uninstall your version of MSE and download a fresh and updated copy from the Microsoft. Let us know then if that solved the problem.

Please use the Full uninstaller for Microsoft Security Essentials > Info > Tool

 

You need to remove all traces of the old version, Reboot, then reinstall again -

Thanks for the two responses above.

 

Actually, EVENTUALLY, Microsoft Essentials (Yes it is freeware) did complete it's updating and ran a scan and all is well..

Good to hear that Fred. I'm glad that it finally finished updating. Just when the problem comes, you can do what we have suggested, :D
