So through my school I was able to download windows 8 for free which is awesome. I just built a new computer and I want windows 8 on it. The file they had me download is titled Windows8-Setup.exe , how do I go about installing this onto my new computer by using a flash drive?

Does your school not have the ISO version? Most school's provide access to an MSDN account, which would allow you to download the Windows 8 ISO legitimately. There's no way to boot into an executive file, so you must either install another Windows OS, or find the ISO.

Hi

Windows 8 setup.exe is an online downloader to create the setup media. Follow the below steps to create a bootable USB flash drive with it.

1 ) Run the setup from a PC which have active internet connection. If it prompts you for a license, enter the key you received .

2 ) Once you've gotten past the licensing screen, it'll ask you how you want to install Windows 8. Choose "Install by Creating Media."

3 ) It'll now give you a choice between a flash drive or an ISO file. If you want to create a thumb drive, choose "USB Flash Drive". Wait until it finishes.
