I am trying to install windows on an HP laptop.  I get the error, "Windows cannot install required files".  I do not have recovery discs.  I do have the Windows 7 product key.  I attempted to install Home Premium from here: http://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/14-windows-7-direct-download-links.  I got the error message.  I also tried with a Pro version, and go the same error.  I then tried installing Ubuntu, and it gets stuck at the Ubuntu loading screen.  I am thinking that this is more of a hardware issue.  Is there any way to confirm this?

Sorry...but those are illegal versions of Win 7 and that website is not an authorized agent of Microsoft.

Per the BC Forum Rules (see link in my signature for summary listing):

"No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences.:

Windows 7 is not free, in spite of the fact that many websites make it seem so.  If you want to install it on a laptop that did not come with Win 7 installed...you need to buy a System Builder or Retail version and use the license applicable to said purchase...to do the install.

This topic is now closed.  If you have any questions about my actions...please contact me via PM and I will try respond to such.
