Hi all,

I am posting this for my friend.

The internet Explorer is trying to download the page I visit, it does not open the webpage but it directly downloads the page.

For example, if I am visiting the page www.google.com it will not open the webpage but will try to download the html file of google.com.

Steps I have tried

Downgrading the version to 9 which failed, tried this from installed updates and using the command prompt(Also used the fixit from microsoft to downgrade the version)

No antivirus now

No infections --> Used multiple scan tools and the antivirus scan(Did not try the combofix)

Checked for toolbars and none present

unable to open the internet explorer options --> Not even from inetcpl.cpl

Tried to use without extensions (iexplore -extoff)

Tried to open in elevated mode

"Download" is a term used to express various things, including acquiring a connection to a webpage or saving a file to a system's hard drive.

Are you saying that your system autiomatically attempts to save webpages as files...to a hard drive on your system?

Does this happen with every webpage/site...or particular ones?

Louis

Hi Jhayz,

If you have read my post I have clearly mentioned I cannot take the Internet Options and also cannot uninstall or downgrade the Internet Explorer. These are the steps which you have suggested. Anyway I appreciate your help and please help me if you have any further steps.

Hi Louis,

Yes, it is trying to save the file I am visiting. If I open Internet Explorer it is not going to the webpage. It is trying to save the ".html" file of the page I am trying to visit. It is the same as which happens when we try to download an application with a link which have a ".exe" at the end. For example as we download "someapp/appname.exe". This happens with all the sites even in Google.

I would try reinstalling SP2 for Vista...dong such often corrects strange problems with Windows.

If that fails, then I would have consider doing a repair of Vista.

Hi Luis,

Thank you and sorry for the late reply.

I hope that can fix the issue. But I was trying to get it fixed by not reinstalling the operating system or the service pack. Any how my friend do not have any important data and I got the permission to work as I like. So I am about to try something in the registry. Hope for the best and keeping my finger crossed.

Regards

Aswin
