I have a relatively new Samsung Q330 laptop, Windows 7

I recently bought a Plantronics Audio 300 desktop microphone

When I plug in the 3.5mm jack into the microphone slot on the side of the laptop, the computer doesn't locate it separately from the in-built mic (See attached screenshot)

The mic works but there is all sorts of interference and distortion because I presume it is clashing with the inbuilt mic

Maybe Realtek HD Audio Manager is causing problems here but if I uninstall that program or even roll back to an older driver I lose sound altogether

Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

Can you check the playback and recording devices and what particular activity do you hear distortion? The distortion usually comes on high volume and changing the recording device to stereo mix.
