Hello Guys, I'm just new here. Hope you could help me with my problem.

My windows explorer is restarting, and my opened folders will automatically close. It's not always but often.

It started about 4 days ago, at first I did not mind it but now it's driving me crazy.

Another problem is a message that popups on start up saying that "Windows detected a hard disk problem".

Also, I can't use Windows Defender, every time I try to open the application, an error comes out with the error code: 0x80073b01.

Am I infected with any virus?

I am just using an anti-malware.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

Hi

Sorry for the late reply.

"Windows detected a hard disk problem" message means you hard disk is failing. Backup any data immediately.

Usually Windows displays this message when SMART chip inside the HDD reports about serious errors.

We need to test the HDD with manufactures diagnostics tools to check it's physical condition. Please post the make and model of your PC or laptop. If it is an assembled one, publish a snapshot using Speccy by referring  instructions in the below link. Don't post the result here, instead paste the web link it displays.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/323892/publish-a-snapshot-using-speccy/

Also download "MinitoolBox" from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/

Open it and select only the following check boxes.

  - List last 10 Event Viewer Errors

  - List Devices

  - List users, Partition and memory size

  - List installed programs

Now click go and post the result in next reply.

Hi

Your Event log shows possible HDD failure. The message you receives further confirm it.

Error: (05/22/2013 08:55:54 PM) (Source: volsnap) (User: )

Description: The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because of an IO failure on volume C:.

Since you didn't posted the Speccy link, i am unsure which brand is your HDD. For now we can use Seagate Seatool bootable version which can test all manufacturer's HDD.

Download Seatool For DOS from http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-dos-master/

Burn the ISO to a CD using "Image to disc" option. Refer http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/201431en

Boot from the CD and run a "long test" with it. You can change the boot order from BIOS.

An example video :

We are doing this to confirm the HDD is faulty. If Seatool reports either "SMART Failure detected" or "Errors detected" message, you should replace the HDD.
