Hi!

I have the trail version of Spyware Detector which is telling me that I have the Winfixer file setup.inf in my downloaded program files folder. When i look in the folder it is not there!! I have tried several virus protectors and spyware removal programs, and both Vundo Fix and VirtumundoBegone can't seem to get rid of this file! Please help.

Here is my hyjack this log. Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to the Forum. :thumbsup:

Well, I don't see any sign of Vundo, but I see another infection, Wareout.

We'll need to disable Windows Defender so that it will not interfere with the fix. You can re-enable it when it's all clean.

Open Windows Defender:
1. Click on "Tools"
2. Click on "General Settings"
3. Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
4. Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
5. Click "Save"

================================

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
  • Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure Run fixit is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • Once the desktop loads, post the text that will open (report.txt)and a new Hijackthis log back here please.

Well done. :thumbsup: Couple more scans.

Download and install Ewido Anti-Malware

During the installation, uncheck the following under Additional Options:
Install background guard
Install scan via context menu

Check for updates but do not run it yet.

===========================================

1. Open My Computer
2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
6. A box will display the various files you can remove.
Check all boxes except compress old files (If listed)
7. Click OK and windows will comply.

=========================================

Restart your computer in Safe Mode

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

=========================================
  • Close all open Explorer windows and browsers/email, etc
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button and when complete
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{AB4B6129-E624-432D-A2D7-75099BC383A0}: NameServer = 85.255.116.87,85.255.112.174

==========================================

Run Ewido.
Click on Scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says 'Perform action with all infections' then choose clean and click OK.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report - click it.
Save the report.txt file to your desktop.

Now close Ewido-Anti-Malware.

Warning: While the scan is in progress, DO NOT open any folders or the Windows Control Panel !!

==========================================
Reboot in Normal Mode and
Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.
- Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
- A new window will open...click the big "Check Now" button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
- Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

===========================================
Post Panda scan results, Ewido report and a new HijackThis log in your next reply, please

Or Alternatively, you can boot into Safe Mode after you do the fix with HijackThis but must be before running Ewido.

Well done. :thumbsup: Online scan is showing some bad files. Let's clean those now.

Boot into Safe Mode and, using Windows Explorer, navigate and delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dmili.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ld8DF7.tmp

========================================

Empty the Yahoo Quarantine folder (don't delete the folder itself):

C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\YPSR\Quarantine

========================================

Please download Ccleaner and save it to your desktop.

Click on Options, Select Advanced Now UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
Make sure the Cleaner block on the left is selected. (Do not use the "Issues" block) Choose the Windows tab.
Check everything EXCEPT Advanced part of the Menu. Click on "Analyze". This process could take a while.
If you don't want to loose your login passwords to certain sites, click on Options, select cookies and move the ones you want to keep to the "cookies to keep" section, by highlighting and using the arrows in the middle.
Choose Run Cleaner.
When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished. Click Exit.

If you have more than one users, run Ccleaner for every user.

Tutorial for CCleaner

========================================

Reboot and run Panda again. Post the Panda results only. Thanks :flowers:

Panda came up with no Malware found!!!

That's great.

Please run Notepad and paste the following text inside the Code box into a new file: It's important that you use notepad, not wordpad.
attrib -r -h -s C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\setup.inf
del C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\setup.inf
Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as Type" field says "All Files". Then please go to the desktop and double-click on remove.bat.

Reboot and see if Spyware Detector is still flagging it and let me know. If all well, then we can secure your computer as the next step.
