I have a refurbished Advent D2111 with the following specs:-
8 GB RAM
Intel i5 2320 quad 3.0 GHz
2 TB HDD
ATI Radeon HD 6670
running windows 7 home premium 64bit
I'm afraid I don't know the brands of the memory, HDD, PSU, or motherboard. Basically I bought this thing last October and it was fine for some time. However it started crashing frequently: something inside the tower would beep (as the desktop normally does when it turns off) and it would either crash immediately and revert to a BSOD before restarting, or the screen would freeze over and huge stripes of distorted colours would appear before I had to restart manually. This was some months ago and I thought I fixed the problem when I reinstalled Windows. But it's been happening again, more recently. I tried to reinstall windows again but the installation failed and I had to take it to get repaired. The core problem was not solved however. Interestingly it tends to survive on a clean boot, whereas otherwise the BSOD occurs very quickly. It does not occur on Safe Mode. Running HDD checks and sfc hasn't solved the problem, and I'm currently using only one stick of ram to see if the other is faulty. I thought it might be my graphics card overheating and so manually turned the fan higher on Catalyst Control which seemed to do some good but today hasn't seemed to work. I think it might be the hard disk, and Windows Action Center identified some possible problem there, though the prompt has disappeared now. My BSOD STOP code is 0x00000074 (0x0000000000000002, 0xFFFFF880043F09E0, 0XFFFFFFFFC000003A), reading BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO. Having googled this I see on Windows 7 it normally refers to a faulty registry but I don't see how this could be the case considering Windows was only reinstalled a few days ago. I think it is a hardware issue but I don't know how to identify the guilty part.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm at my wit's end!
