Hello. I would really appreciate if somebody could have a look at these. I have noticed some strange behaviour in the browser and Emsisoft has quarantined a file as "Trace.File.Lop.com". For now I would just like to know if there is an infection, and, if the answer is yes, would creating an image onto an HDD be a good way to preserve the evidence?

I have had a lot of trouble with phishing emails over the last year and, maybe instead of just restoring the system to a pre-infection state and moving on,  I should start keeping some record of the recurring infections.

Any suggestion welcomed.

Please run this security check for my review.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here.

  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Thanks so much for your help, Nasdaq.

Here are the log files. Note that:the computer was offline when I run the programs, hence KIS databases were out of date (but usually they update automatically when I turn the PC on).

MemoQ is a translation program I use, and Nalpeiron is used by another translation software to verify an active subscription.

Your logs are clean.

Please run this security check for my review.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
===

One last check.

Please scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the esetonlinebtn.png button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer.
      Save it to your Desktop.
    • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.png to download the ESET Smart Installer. icon on your Desktop.
  • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
    • Scan potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.

If all is well:

Time for some housekeeping
  • The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
  • Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold text into the Run box and click OK:
  • ComboFix /Uninstall
===

To remove AdwCleaner.

Please double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Uninstall.
Confirm with Yes.

If you decide to keep the AdwCleaner tool make sure to delete your version and download the latest before running it.

Delete the other tools we used.
You can Keep the DDS tool as most forum will ask to see a log before suggesting a fix.
