Well Ive now had this my first new computer some 6 day's and its one thing after another, this time my brand new computer is just shutting down and then I get this come on to screen....


A problem has been dected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer ..

if this is the frist time you've seen this STOP ERROR screen - restart your computer if this screen appears again , follow these steps...
check to make sure Any new hardware or software is properly installed. if this is a new installation ask your hardware or Software manufacture for any Windows updates you may need.
if the problem continues , disable or remove any newly installed hard ware or software . Disable BIOS memory use Safe mode to remove or disable components , restart your computer , press F8 to select advance startup option , andthen select safe mode.

After I re start the computer this message then comes on screen....

I am totally lost..????

I am wondering if the problem may be with an external Modem ive installed that did not come with this new computer...?
a D-LINK V.92 56K Data / Fax external Modem, model DU-562M ., as the computer only shuts down when I am connected to the net..?
when i installed this modem i received a notice on screen saying that this modem was not approved by Microsoft..? could this be some thing to do with the problem...?
any comments or help would be very helpful to this newbie ..................PS i am running Windows XP media edition

So you installed the modem?
If so then the driver is giving you problems. You could try and download a driver. Or contact the manufacturer. I know this problem occurs when on the net so you might have to use another system to do so. Try Uninstalling the driver then re-install the modem and try again.

I'm no expert but i think that is the problem.
May not be suited to WIndows MCE you would have to check the specs on the modem.

A quick test would be to unplug your modem and restart your computer. If you no longer have issues than the problem is with the modem.

I would then suggest reinstalling it, following the instructions very carefully and completely.

Maybe, but probably not. This is discussed in your installation guide.

Before reinstalling I would download the latest driver HERE. Often manufacturers update drivers if they are having troubles with them. You could have an older version of the driver on your installation CD.

General info on your modem can be found HERE.

I had a hard time finding info on your particular modem, it turns out they don't sell that model here in the USA, but I noticed you are in Thailand and so I searched the Australian D-link web site and found it!

If you try the above and continue to have problems, let us know and we can give you some new ideas and ways to chase down the cause!

Thanks to every one for the info, Albert & Izzy you were spot on !!!, I uninstalled the Modem and used a friends Modem, and so far no problem !!!, so it looks as if it was the new external modem I installed , ive downloaded the driver from the web site and will now give it a try using this ..? will let you know how I get on .... many thanks for your help and advice - most welcome .
