Hi guys,

Previously I posted my question in the below link but I am not sure about it....

Follow this link:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/494075/i-have-to-different-brands-rams-is-this-right/

Apart from above link initially I had a 15" monitor which worked fine with my Intel D845GVSR board and 2.4GHz CPU and 512 DDR SDRAM until I replaced it with new dell N1930 18.5" LED monitor. But after installing my new monitor I can't set the 1366x768 resolution and the only resolution which I could set was 1280x768. So I downloaded the graphics driver from the below link:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=6107&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%20XP%20%20Professional*&DownloadType=

This driver works fine but sometimes my pc suddenly hangs or sometimes restarts. Is this due to new monitor which can't be supported by board or due to two different brands' RAMs (kingston-1gb and simtronics-512MB) or due to the graphics driver which I downloaded for the board or due to 3Ds Max 2010 software which I am running. Any help regarding this would be appreciated.... Thanx....

Has it only started happening since you installed the new driver? If so, this would be the first thought.

If it was happening before, then the memory could be suspect, since a monitor shouldn't be able to cause a computer to hang or re-start. One way to check would be to remove one brand of memory, see if it changes, then try it with only the the other brand. If they can't work together, it will only have the problem when both are fitted. If it always has the problem only with certain memory fitted, then that memory could have a fault, or be incompatible with the mainboard.

I think the memory sticks are not compatible... I am not sure but I think so because they have different brands' sticks. The shopkeeper told me they are same DDR SDRAM. Is there any kind of versions in DDR SDRAMs available?

There can be some variations, such as timing specifications, but this may not mean the memory is incompatible. Timing differences for example will in most cases run reliably, with the mainboard setting the timing to suit the slowest memory. Occasionally this still causes a problem - the simplest way to confirm this is to try running without differing memory concurrently fitted, and see if the problem goes away.

I just removed my RAMs and I saw a difference written on them---

on 512MB Simtronics it is written- PC2700 DDR SDRAM 64Mx64 512MB

on 1gb Kingston it is written- KPR2700/1GR 2.5V

Is there any difference between the rams? To confirm it I removed 512MB RAM and ran the machine on 1GB RAM and it hanged again...

They're both PC2700 DDR, but beyond that the information doesn't tell us anything useful. Removing one has confirmed that the hang is not caused by the DIMMs being incompatible with each other. Have you tried running with just the 512M DIMM fitted?

That points suspicion towards the 1G DIMM. If it keeps working fine with only the 512M fitted, but starts hanging or rebooting again if you go back to using the 1G DIMM, then it seems likely that DIMM is faulty. There's a slight possibility a faulty memory slot or memory controller could cause such a fault, if it's a problem with an address line that isn't used with only 512M fitted. But overall a faulty DIMM is more likely.

Idle thought...the modules may be low-density paired with high-density...this used to be an issue with some systems in the past employing SDRAM modules.  That incompatibility does not exist in later versions of RAM, AFAIK.

A monitor...is only a viewing device...for the computer.

Within the system...Windows may hang for any number of reasons, none of which have to do with the monitor output device.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
