Hi,

I have an acer 4736 laptop which has a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN. The problem is that the Wifi adapter gets disconnected/switches off and gets disabled randomly. When i try to troubleshoot, the Wifi adapter is reset and it starts working again. However this doesn't work all the time. Pressing the physical button doesn't help either. I have to shutdown the computer and start it again for the adapter to start working again. Even shutting down and restarting doesn't always help as the adapter doesn't show up/ is missing on the device manager.

This problem started a few weeks ago and simply troubleshooting would fix the problem. For the past few days however, it disconnects randomly after the computer starts. Another thing is sometimes the adapter doesn't disconnect even after a few hours but sometimes it disconnects within a few minutes of use.

I have updated my drivers and disabled power management. I am guessing its a hardware problem. Is there any way to fix it or should i just buy a usb network adapter.

Thanks.

An Ethernet cable looks like a telephone cable but with larger connectors on the ends. Plug this cable into the opening on the back or side of the computer. Make sure the other end of the cable is plugged into the router. If that does not help, try using a different cable.

If you're connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact the network administrator. Otherwise: 1. Unplug or turn off the device. 2. After all the lights on the device are off, wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Turn the device back on or plug it back into the power outlet. To restart a router or access point that has a built-in battery, press and quickly release the Reset button.

Please download the proper driver (Select your operating system(yours is 32bit according to your report) https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+Wi-Fi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+WiFi+Link+5300+and+Intel%C2%AE+WiFi+Link+5100+products

Download and when you open the installer choose the repair option and proceed with the setup. If that fails your adapter may be going bad, how long have you had it for?

Thanks for the link. My drivers are updated. I've been using the laptop for almost 4 years now. I guess its just old age problems.
