I have an acer netbook running windows 7 starter. First, can I upgrade to windows 7 pro? And if so will I be able to put more than 2 gigs of ram after the upgrade?

You can use Windows Anytime Upgrade --> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/products/features/windows-anytime-upgrade

You can put more than 2 gigs of ram anytime, just only two gigs will be available with Starter edition...
