I have a IBM Thinkpad R30 purchased from auction. I didn't know it had a BIOS Supervisor Password configured, but after my BIOS battery died and I replaced it - the default BIOS reset with the Supervisor Password was set.

You can not clear it, nor you can not remove it by taking out the battery. It's hard coded on the EPROM, or EEPROM, chip.

I have attempted to boot from a boot disk CD, and USB thumb drive with Knoppix, but both failed.

The research I've done is as follows...

http://www.ja.axxs.net/r30.htm
http://sodoityourself.com/hacking-ibm-thinkpad-bios-password/
http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-bios-password.shtml

Since I can't boot the laptop from a boot disk, software like this is futile.

Any other ideas on how to boot from a boot disk, or bootable USB thumb drive, so I can run the www.biospasswordrecovery.com or www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/CmosPwd

My last option is this http://www.ja.axxs.net/r30.htm and http://sodoityourself.com/hacking-ibm-thinkpad-bios-password/

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Thank you for your reply. I'll look into this and report if successful?

Thanks again Louis, but the manual is the same as I downloaded here; ThinkPad R30, R31 - Hardware Maintenance Manual (September 2002) http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-39797
