If you can do a system restore to a point before the problem started, try that.
If the problem persists, it's most likely a malware issue that has altered the associations for your files. You'll have to install anti-virus software, if you don't have any, and run a full system scan.

Can you be more specific re bootstrap? Are you referring to the startup process, or an app, or the virus?
