Its a dell inspiron 1545, running windows 8 right now.  One day I was working on it when suddenly it turned off, and started this behavior of starting, showing the display screen, beginning to load the desktop, then shutting down after 3 sec, and repeating the cycle again and again.  I initially thought the motherboard has gone kaput, but then realized that unlike some of my other computers, this one didnt just power up and then shut down, it powered up, started the display screen and showed the windows logo, then shut down and kept repeating.  My other computer just powered up and shut down and repeated without showing anything on the display screen.  So I figure the computer gets too hot right away.  Could that be the case , that even from a cold state, the processor heats up anxd sinals the computer to shut down.

Oh one thing I noticed, thhe display when the computer tries to load the desktop, has started flickering
