i am trying to clean up a computer.

it had 3 gigs left of free space on the 60gig hard drive, so i ran CleanUp! it deleted about 400 megs of data.

so i started exploring, and the culprit folder seems to be here :

c:\users\<username>\appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\ when opening the directory the computer slows down to a crawl trying to list the folder contents, i killed the explorer when it had reached 460k files and more than 20 gigs of data.

from what i understand that location does not seem to be a normal temp file storage place?

things i have tried to clean this folder

1 CleanUp! (removed 400 megs)

2 Killbox (died trying to delete)

3 opened java console from control panel and deleted temp files there

4 cmd.exe with a delete *.* command

When running CMD i get a ton of these errors,

AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Con
tent.IE5\Z52XT5LX\300x250_2013SouthCentralRegion_DynamicElementsCATVGC27.swf
The system cannot find the file specified.

the errors seems to be all types of files (htm, swf. flv)

when i browse back to that same folder, all the files are still visible.

how do i get rid of them?

p22002970.gif Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Alternate download: http://www.itxassociates.com/OT-Tools/TFC.exe
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

Thanks for the suggestion Broni.

I ran the program and it froze up the computer with 0 bytes deleted.

I also tried CCleaner and it removed about 70 megs

Try TFC from safe mode.

...and be patient. If you have a lot of temp files it'll take a while.

over night, the temp folder expanded by 500 megs.

i did run a malwarebytes on the computer (expluded that folder) and nothing was found.

I cannot figure out why that folder is expanding the way it is.

I checked the Java settings and it is not using that location as a temp file storage, neither is IE. (at least not according to internet settings)
