Same old "Failure to query TCP/IP..." problem.

Hopeful first time user.

Dell optiplex GX280 XP pro SP3 Broadcom adapter.

Three computers had been working normally on home LAN. Suddenly one no longer will connect to internet.
One working system connected to Vonage router directly, the other connected through a hub and then to
the router, along with problem system. The other hub connected unit is working normally. Problem
unit says it's connected to the LAN but does not connect to internet. No known virus problems. McAfee
installed. I've scoured the internet for a lolution, read many suggested cures, tried several that sounded
promising, including several on BC, all to no avail. If someone would suggest a solution, I'll be greatly
indebted.

Download then run Farbar Service Scanner and checkmark all boxes.
Click Scan and then a Notepad text will open. Copy-Paste the report on your next reply.

These services must be running in order for internet to properly work.

Network Connections >> make sure it is started >> startup type set to manual
Network List Service >> make sure it is started >> startup type set to automatic
Network Location Awareness >> started >> startup type set to Automatic
Network Store Interface Service >> started >> startup type set to Automatic

According to the farbar log. the NLA service is failing to start. Can you please check your services.msc file and make sure these services are enabled and started. If you receive an error when trying to start them, then please paste it here, so we may take a look at it.

If you're running windows xp then open a run box by hold down the windows key which is right in the middle of the ctrl & alt key on the left, and then press the R key. This will open a run dialog box. When it opens simply type services.msc and it will launch the services screen. Then you may check these services to make sure that they are running.

*The above will also work for Windows 7 and etc..

Re Services list:

"Network Connections" are as you prescribed.

Following Services do not appear in the list:

"Network Store Interface Service"

"Network List Service"

Errors:

When I clicked the "start" button for Network Location Awareness Service, the following appeared:

"Could not start Network Location Awareness service on Local Computer.  Error 1068.

The dependency service or group failed to start."

When I looked at Task Manager Services, Broadcom Management Agent is constantly using 99% of CPU capacity.

Sounds like there is a corruption in the TCP/IP stack.

Can you please try the following and see if it'll resolve this issue.

To fix, you will need to run a command prompt as administrator

Goto Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt (Right-Click and Run as Administrator)

At the command Prompt type : netsh winsock reset

When finished, please restart the computer and see if the problem is still present.

try this command as well and then reboot the computer to see if it'll resolve the issue.

Open up an elevated command prompt and type this:

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

No change.  When I go to local connection - properties and click on TCP/IP and install, it tells me it can find no drivers.

Try removing Mcafee security protection by following this link for XP. Then download and run Winsock XP Fix.

Glad it worked. Try using one of the Free Antiviruses instead of using McAfee -
