I've been letting my wifes friend use my PC while she was here, and she's been using Microsoft Internet Explorer instead of Firefox without me knowing it.

The first thing I did was remove all access to the internet by Internet Explorer, and I also disabled ActiveX, Java, and Javascript within IE security in case anyone else manages to get on the internet with IE.

I've tried everything I can and searched the internet high and low for a fix for the other problems. From Ad-Aware, Spybot, Hijack this, a hundred re-boots into safe mode to un-install things, ect. ect., and still the problems persist.

I managed to get rid of a ton of things already, but here's what I'm having specific problems with that won't go away. Each one of these things continually tries to access the internet but my firewall, Zone Alarm free, catches and stops them:

project1.exe

optimize.exe

sms112x.exe

TagASaurus.exe

i6.tmp

mc-110-12-0000122.exe

i29.tmp

FCAdvice.exe

Here is my HijackThis log:

Hello Tyr Aesir,

Are you using an anti-virus program? I do not see one listed in your running processes.

Only an anti-virus scanner can protect you against new viruses.

I recommend you download, update and run the free
AntiVir or
AVG antivirus

***************************************************

Be sure to run Adaware SE with a Full Scan in the Safe Mode.

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Ad-Aware SE Setup

***************************************************

Please download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

If malware is found, click the button "Remove Selected Malware".

Save the log file by clicking on "Save HTML-Report".

Let it delete whatever it finds.

***************************************************

Please download Ewido Anti Malware it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido anti malware
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
    Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close Ewido Anti Malware.

Note: Ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

Please post the report .txt from Ewido and a fresh Hijackthis log.
