I know there is a way...have read previously...a way to "hack' or "change" the start botton in the lower left corner in Windoxs Xp Home, I know that there is also a way to change the Windows "flag" or "banner" located there also. I cannot locate this info anywhere..anyone have any insight into this?

It isn't hard to change the text on the start button! I have done it many times before when I was using Windows. It requires that you edit the file explorer.exe (the Windows Shell). Here is a guide you can use that shows you how to change the text on all versions of Windows. You would be surprised what you can find if you use a search engine. I am not sure if you can edit the logo.

Hi guys,

Yes this is easy but as the guide that G3ccO pointed you to states you can only change up to 5 letters, here is another guide from "ElderGeek" that lets you place more than 5 letters or digits in there...Try This

Hope this helps

I wonder if you could change it to "why bother?"

Just remember, that if other people use, or will have occasion to use, the computer you are changing, they may well be confused; personalising your computer in this way makes it much less portable.

Safely? Hummm? No problems so far but the darn M$ icon is still there.

Proably about the fourth or fifth time I use the "I Quit" button - the entire XP system will shut off forever because of some hidden Billy Goats program.

Well, I did encounter a problem this early afternoon after having modified the shell for the "Start" button on my M$ XP. (I knew Billy Goats had a sneaker program hidden in the OS!)

:flowers:

I was on the M$ download site bringing down 25mb of the "Net Framwork" program. After about 6mb of the D/L, it stopped and the error message - "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, etc" appeared, D/L stopped and XP shut down. (What else is new?)

Since the only changes/mods made to my XP recently was the "Start" shell, and I had read all the other posts and references in this thread - I knew what the problem was immediately. A simple "Restore" was accomplished and everything appears back to "status quo" - the green "Start" button is back (Booo!).

:inlove:

I am going to miss my "I Quit" option!!! I guess I'll just put a semi-transparent sticky over the offending button.....

Thanks to all that posted their cautions.

:trumpet:
