Last year I bought Trend Micro's PC-Cillin antivirus program, and the service is expiring in a few days, so I'm being asked to renew my subscription.

My question is -- should I renew my subscription, or will the free AVG program I have now downloaded (thanks to BC) give my computer the protection I need?

Any suggestions as to possible other free options?

I have used AVG's free version for several years, and have never been infected.

I to would like to say AVG is an excellent choice. PCcillian is by all accounts a good program, but it does cost. If you go with AVG, download it to a folder. Then completely uninstall PCcillian. I would research their site in case the have a special program to complete the uninstall process. Once uninstalled right away install and update AVG. This method will leave you without protection only a few minutes.
Here are the other recommended antivirus..

Antivirus (Run only one.)
AVG Free Edition Antivirus (I personally use)
Avast Home Edition Antivirus Freeware
AntiVir Personal Edition Classic Freeware
BitDefender 8 Free Edition

Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice.

I have uninstalled PC-Cillin, and placed my trust in AVG.

Here's an excellent article by TonyKlein. It gives you many tools to help protect your computer with and explains how you may stay clean.
